Katz: ‘No humanitarian aid will enter Gaza, it is a means of pressure on Hamas’
Israeli Defence Minister reiterates hard line: stop aid to weaken Hamas. Attacked right-wing MPs who had spoken of an opening
Israeli Defence Minister Israel Katz ruled out any resumption of humanitarian aid to the Gaza Strip, reiterating that at this stage ‘no humanitarian aid will enter Gaza’. Katz explained that this is a deliberate strategy to put pressure on Hamas, an organisation considered terrorist by Israel, the US, the EU and other countries.
‘It is one of the main tools along with other measures Israel is taking against Hamas,’ Katz said, adding that ’no one will bring humanitarian aid into Gaza and no one is preparing to do so.’
The minister harshly criticised some right-wing MPs who had interpreted his earlier statements as an opening for the resumption of humanitarian supplies: ‘It is a disgrace that there are those who try to mislead,’ he said.
As for the future, Katz indicated the possibility of an alternative mechanism, based on the use of civilian companies, to prevent Hamas from accessing aid.
