The American actor died at the age of 90 of natural causes at his home in California. As a young man he won an Oscar for his performance in the 1946 film

Claude Jarman Jr., famous former US child actor, passed away on Sunday 12 January at the age of 90 at his home in Marin County, Kentfield, California. The news was confirmed by his wife, Katharine M. Stuart, to The Hollywood Reporter. Jarman is known for winning a youth Oscar for his performance in the film ‘The Puppy’ (1946), in which he played the role of a boy who adopts an orphaned fawn.

Born in Nashville, Tennessee, on 27 September 1934, Jarman was discovered as a young man during a talent search conducted by the Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer studios. His performance in the film directed by Clarence Brown earned him a special Oscar in 1947, an award that made him one of the youngest winners in the history of the Academy Awards. Jarman played the son of Gregory Peck and Jane Wyman, winning the hearts of audiences with his touching performance.

Subsequently, the young actor starred in a series of successful films, including ‘Island on the Mountain’ (1947), ‘Frontier Women’ (1949) and ‘In the Dust of the Deep South’ (1949), again directed by Clarence Brown and based on a novel by William Faulkner. In 1950, he starred opposite John Wayne in John Ford’s ‘Rio Grande’.

After a successful early career, Jarman continued his studies and, once they were completed, he went on to work in Hollywood, dedicating himself to film production.
