The young boy managed to get out of the stricken vehicle in the attack in Sumy and unlocked the door to allow survivors to get to safety

He is only 13 years old, but his gesture saved lives. Kyrylo Illiashenko was with his mother Maryna on board a trolleybus that was hit during an attack in Sumy, Ukraine. After the explosion, which killed the driver and most of the passengers, the young boy managed to escape through a window.

Wounded in the head by three pieces of shrapnel, once outside he went back to unlock the front door of the vehicle from the outside, allowing the survivors to get out. The reconstruction of the incident was provided by Kordon Media.

Kyrylo, who wrestles, is still under medical observation after an operation to remove one of the splinters. His condition, according to the acting mayor of Sumy, Artem Kobzar, is not a cause for concern. His mother also suffered injuries, but is stable.
