Interim leadership change follows Tulsi Gabbard’s resignation last month
President Donald Trump has appointed William J. Pulte as acting Director of National Intelligence, placing him in temporary charge of the U.S. intelligence community following the resignation of Tulsi Gabbard.
Pulte currently serves as Director of the Federal Housing Finance Agency and as chairman of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac. He will retain both positions while taking on the additional interim intelligence role.
Gabbard resigned last month, saying she wanted to remain close to her husband after he was diagnosed with cancer.
In a post on Truth Social, Trump praised Pulte’s experience in handling sensitive national matters, particularly those related to security and financial market stability. He described him as having “deep experience in handling America’s most sensitive matters, security, and the strength of markets.”
The appointment places Pulte at the helm of the U.S. intelligence apparatus on an interim basis, while he continues to oversee federal housing finance operations.
