Ukrainian president denounces new large-scale Russian raids and demands US response. Macron: ‘Strong action needed if Moscow continues to refuse peace’

Volodymyr Zelensky accuses Donald Trump of still not taking a stand after Russia rejected an American proposal for an unconditional ceasefire, already accepted by Kiev. ‘Ukraine has accepted the American proposal for a complete and unconditional ceasefire. Putin refuses. We are waiting for the US to respond, so far there has been no response,’ the Ukrainian president said in his usual evening speech.

Russian attacks in six regions

Meanwhile, the conflict continues with intensity. In recent hours, Russia has launched a new massive attack with drones and ballistic missiles. According to Zelensky, ‘the pressure on Moscow remains insufficient’ and the daily raids are ‘Putin’s response to international diplomatic work’.

The Ukrainian Air Force reported that 23 missiles were launched during the night, 13 of which were intercepted, and 109 drones, including 40 shot down and 53 drones fired. The explosions hit several regions: Kiev, Mykolaiv, Sumy, Kharkiv, Khmelnytskyi and Cherkasy. In the Kherson region, a 59-year-old man was killed in a drone attack, according to Ukrinform.

‘Putin continues with terror as long as the world allows him to,’ Zelensky said, denouncing more than 1,460 guided bombs, some 670 drone attacks and more than 30 missiles in a single week. ‘Every attack targets our people, our children. It is a war against children playing in playgrounds,’ he added after the bombing in his hometown of Kryvyi Rih.

Moscow claims, Kiev denies

The Russian Defence Ministry claimed control of Basivka, in the Ukrainian region of Sumy, on the border with Russia. But the Ukrainian authorities called the news ‘disinformation’. ‘The enemy continues its propaganda campaign about alleged conquests in the north of the country,’ said Andriy Demchenko, spokesman for the Ukrainian Border Guard Service.

Macron: ‘A strong reaction is needed’

French President Emmanuel Macron, who reiterated the need for an immediate ceasefire, was also on the same line. ‘My thoughts are with the children and all the civilian victims of the Russian attacks, including the one on 4 April in Kryvyi Rih,’ he wrote in a post on X. ‘If Moscow continues to refuse peace, strong action will be necessary.’
