New update from the Vatican on the condition of the Pontiff, hospitalised with bilateral pneumonia and kidney failure under control

The prognosis of Pope Francis, hospitalised at the Policlinico Gemelli in Rome due to bilateral pneumonia, remains reserved. The new bulletin issued by the Holy See refers to an ‘initial slight renal insufficiency under control’, a detail that emerged for the first time. The Pontiff’s condition remains critical, although he has not experienced respiratory crisis since last night. The therapy with two units of concentrated haematology has borne fruit, improving haemoglobin levels, while his plateletopenia has remained stable.

The Holy Father continues to be alert and oriented, even attending Holy Mass in his flat on the 10th floor of the Polyclinic, together with the doctors and medical staff assisting him. Oxygen therapy at high flows continues, and the complexity of the clinical picture requires time for the therapies to produce concrete results. The Holy See confirms that despite some positive signs, the Pope’s prognosis remains reserved.
