Trump reappears after rumours: ‘They say I’m dead? Really?’
The US president jokes about rumours circulating online: ‘Just a two-day break.’
Donald Trump has reappeared in public after almost a week away from the cameras, fuelling uncontrolled speculation about his health in recent days. Rumours amplified by the hashtag #trumpisdead, which trended between Friday and Saturday on X, and by a surge in Google searches in the United States.
The president chose the Oval Office of the White House for a press conference, officially dedicated to announcing the transfer of command of the US Space Force to Alabama. However, the occasion soon turned into a question and answer session with reporters, who pressed him on the rumours about his health.
‘They say I’m dead? Really?’ Trump joked, dismissing any speculation. “I did a lot of press conferences last week, all of which went very well. I didn’t do anything for two days and they started saying something was wrong. Biden did nothing for months and everything was fine…”
The president recalled that he had participated in interviews, television programmes and posted on Truth Social, as well as meeting people at his golf club over the weekend. Then came the final blow against the media: ‘That’s why they are so untrustworthy.’
