The killer arrested for the murder of Charlie Kirk is named Tyler Robinson
The governor of Utah confirms: ‘He confessed to his father, he acted alone’
The alleged killer of conservative activist Charlie Kirk, who was murdered at Utah Valley University, has been identified as 22-year-old Tyler Robinson, a native of Utah. The name, initially reported by NBC News, was confirmed by Governor Spencer Cox.
The confession to his father
According to two sources cited by The New York Times, Robinson admitted the crime to his father, who alerted a family friend. The latter then informed the Washington County Sheriff’s Office, leading to the 22-year-old’s capture late yesterday evening near Zion National Park, about 400 kilometres from the university.
Conversations and messages
Cox explained that investigators recovered chats between Robinson and his flatmate on Discord, which referred to the retrieval of a rifle hidden in a bush, a change of clothes and bullets engraved with phrases including “Bella ciao”. The roommate said that the young man, who had “become more political in recent years”, had described Kirk as “full of hate”.
The video and the escape
Footage released by the Department of Public Safety shows the suspect running across the roof of a campus building, then climbing down onto the lawn and heading towards a wooded area where the weapon was found. Officers collected hand and shoe prints for further analysis.
