The Pontiff has been in hospital at the Gemelli since 14 February with bilateral pneumonia. No acute worsening, but the prognosis remains reserved

Pope Francis’ condition remains “critical but stationary”, the Vatican confirmed today in a medical bulletin released on Tuesday 25 February. The Pontiff has been hospitalised at the Policlinico Gemelli since 14 February due to bilateral pneumonia. According to the Holy See, there have been no acute respiratory episodes and the Pope’s haemodynamic parameters continue to remain stable.

In the evening, the Pontiff underwent a control CT scan, scheduled to monitor the evolution of the pneumonia, but the results of the examination are not yet available. ‘The prognosis remains reserved,’ the Vatican stressed.

Despite the delicate clinical picture, Pope Francis is alert and responds adequately to stimuli. In the morning today, after receiving the Eucharist, he resumed a light activity, which appears to be a continuation of the one he started earlier.
