Even in the face of the plane crash, the US president takes the opportunity to criticise his predecessors Obama first and Biden later
US President Donald Trump confirmed that there were no survivors in the plane crash at Washington’s Ronald Reagan Airport, where an American Airlines flight with 64 people on board collided with a military helicopter.
‘The job has now shifted to a recovery mission,’ Trump said, calling the incident ’a dark and heartbreaking night for our capital and our nation.’ The president assured that an investigation will be opened to clarify the causes of the crash: ‘We have some pretty clear ideas about what happened, but we’re going to make sure that a tragedy like this never happens again.
But not even in a moment of national grief, Trump avoided launching political attacks. In his speech, he pointed his finger at the Obama administration, which he accused of leaving an inefficient air traffic control system in place. ‘During my first term, I had to make sure that air traffic controllers were of superior intelligence,’ he said, before directing a new jab at Joe Biden: ’He brought them down to the lowest level ever.’
Words that once again confirm how, even in the face of tragedy, Trump misses no opportunity to attack Democratic administrations of the recent past.
