President Ilham Aliyev accuses Moscow of hiding the truth about the incident involving a passenger flight that crashed in Kazakhstan

Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev has accused Russia of being responsible for the plane crash involving an Azerbaijani Airlines flight that crashed in Kazakhstan this week. Aliyev said the plane was hit by Russian electronic warfare systems near Grozny, causing severe damage and near loss of control of the aircraft.

According to Aliyev, the aircraft was hit from the outside, and fire from Russian territory damaged the tail of the aircraft. The president also criticised Moscow for trying to hide the true causes of the accident, demanding that Russia admit its responsibility and publicly apologise to Azerbaijan.

After these statements, Aliyev and Russian President Vladimir Putin had a further telephone conversation, confirmed by Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov, to discuss the accident and its consequences.
