At least 14 people, including women and children, were killed and 30 others wounded in new Israeli raids on the Gaza Strip that began in the early hours of today. Overnight bombings also hit homes in Gaza City, intensifying the already dramatic death toll.

Meanwhile, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu had a telephone conversation with U.S. President-elect Donald Trump overnight. According to reports by Israeli news site Ynet, the two leaders discussed the conflict in Gaza and a possible deal to free hostages held in the Palestinian enclave for more than a year. The news was also relayed by the Times of Israel, which mentioned the situation in Syria among the topics discussed, particularly after the fall of the Assad regime.

Antony Blinken’s statements

U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken, speaking yesterday from Amman, Jordan, stressed that Israel has already achieved its basic military objectives aimed at preventing a recurrence of attacks like the one on Oct. 7. Blinken urged the conclusion of a ceasefire agreement and the release of hostages. At the same time, he highlighted the increased flow of humanitarian aid into Gaza, with more truckloads of supplies entering the Strip to support the population.
