Negotiations to end the conflict in Gaza are expected to take place in Egypt, with delegations from the United States, Israel, Qatar and Hamas

There is great anticipation in Egypt for the start of indirect talks between Israel and Hamas following the presentation of Donald Trump’s plan for “ending the conflict in Gaza”. The negotiations will involve several international delegations and will take place in Sharm el-Sheikh, in southern Sinai.

Indirect talks between Israel and Hamas: here are the countries and who will represent them

The US delegation is led by Donald Trump’s special envoy, Steve Witkoff, and the president’s son-in-law, Jared Kushner, who have been mobilised to closely follow the negotiations, as reported by the American media.

According to al-Arabiya satellite TV, senior Shin Bet and Mossad officials have arrived in Sharm el-Sheikh, along with Gal Hirsch, coordinator for hostages and missing persons. The Israeli delegation is expected to be formally led by Minister of Strategic Affairs Ron Dermer, although, according to Israeli sources cited by CNN, Dermer is currently participating “remotely”.

From Qatar, the BBC reports the presence of Foreign Minister Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani, although the news has not been confirmed by the Arab media.

Finally, the delegation from Hamas, the group that has controlled the Gaza Strip since 2007, is led by Khalil Al-Hayya, the movement’s chief negotiator. Last September, Israel attempted to eliminate Al-Hayya during a raid in Doha, but failed.

The indirect talks between Israel and Hamas in Sharm el-Sheikh represent a crucial step in verifying the feasibility of Trump’s plan and discussing the handling of hostages, the ceasefire and future security conditions in the Gaza Strip.
