Gaza hostages, 48 still alive or dead in Hamas’ hands

Gaza hostages, 48 people still alive or dead in captivity in the Gaza Strip

There are reportedly 48 hostages still being held captive in the Gaza Strip. According to the Times of Israel, 47 of them were among the 251 people kidnapped on 7 October 2023 during the Hamas-led attack on Israel, which triggered the ongoing military operations. Among the 48 hostages are the bodies of at least 26 people, whose deaths have been confirmed by the Israel Defence Forces (IDF). Only 20 prisoners are believed to be alive. Among the bodies held by Hamas is that of an Israeli officer killed in Gaza in 2014.

Gaza hostages: not all are under Hamas control

The al-Qassam Brigades, Hamas’ armed wing, announced on Sunday that they had lost contact with two hostages due to Israeli military operations. Not all hostages are under their control.
Meanwhile, Donald Trump has presented a plan to end the conflict: “Within 72 hours of Israel publicly accepting this agreement, all hostages, living and deceased, will be returned,” reads the draft released by the White House.

Gaza hostages: Netanyahu approves Trump’s plan

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu confirmed that he had accepted the American president’s proposal. ‘Israel has accepted President Trump’s plan,’ Foreign Minister Gideon Sa’ar also reiterated from Belgrade. Hamas has not yet provided an official response, initiating internal consultations.

Netanyahu, speaking last week at the United Nations General Assembly, reiterated his promise to bring the hostages home: ‘We have not forgotten you.’ The families of the victims, however, accuse the government of not having done enough since 7 October.
