Palestinian sources reveal negotiations with Washington on ceasefire and humanitarian aid. Tensions with Israel over previous contacts
Hamas and the US government are holding direct talks to negotiate a truce in the Gaza Strip and the resumption of humanitarian aid. This was revealed by a senior Palestinian official, as reported by Ynet citing the Reuters news agency.
This is not the first contact between the parties. In the past, the US administration – then under the presidency of Donald Trump – had already initiated secret negotiations through envoy Adam Boehler, with the aim of obtaining the release of hostages and promoting a ceasefire. However, those negotiations did not lead to concrete results and aroused Israel’s indignation.
The new talks take place in an increasingly critical context, marked by weeks of conflict and a growing humanitarian emergency in the Strip. Washington, while not recognising Hamas as an official interlocutor – since it is an organisation designated as terrorist by the United States – now seems willing to explore every diplomatic avenue to stop the hostilities.
