Pope Francis ill with bronchitis, audiences held at Santa Marta

The Pope continues his activities despite bronchitis

Due to bronchitis, Pope Francis will hold the audiences on Friday 7 and Saturday 8 February at Casa Santa Marta, Vatican spokesman Matteo Bruni announced. The decision was made to allow the Pontiff to continue his work, while remaining at rest. Despite his illness, Pope Francis, who is 88 years old, carried on with his schedule, meeting with various Church representatives, including Cardinal Reinhard Marx and Monsignor Antoine Camilleri.

Despite a cold, the Pope continued his scheduled meetings today, including one with Cardinal Jaime Spengler, Bishop Ricardo Hoepers and several members of the Eastern Autocephalous Church. The decision to remain at Casa Santa Marta is a precautionary measure, pending the continuation of the commitment, especially with the approach of the Jubilee appointments, including Sunday’s Mass in St Peter’s Basilica for the Jubilee of the Armed Forces. Pope Francis entrusted the reading of the catechesis to a collaborator, but did not interrupt the flow of important meetings.
