The women, who were kidnapped on 7 October by Hamas, will be handed over to the Red Cross and then transferred to Israel. They will be the first three to return home

The Israeli army has confirmed that Romi Gonen, Emily Damari and Doron Steinbrecher (pictured in the same order from left to right) are the three women Hamas is expected to release today from captivity in the Gaza Strip. Although no exact time has been given, the military forces are already prepared to receive them and ensure their safety during the transfer.

The plan for the release

According to reports, the three women will initially be handed over to the Red Cross, which in turn will hand them over to IDF special forces inside the Gaza Strip. From there, they will be taken to one of three military bases near the border, including Re’im, considered the most likely destination. After an initial screening, the hostages will be transferred to a hospital to receive medical treatment and meet their families.

Romi Gonen, 24, was kidnapped on 7 October during the attack on the Nova festival in the desert. Her name was confirmed by her brother Shahaf, who expressed hope on social media: ‘It’s official. Good luck to us all’.
Emily Damari, a British citizen with dual citizenship, and Doron Steinbrecher were seized from their homes on the Kfar Aza kibbutz. Damari was injured during the attack, while both lived in the ‘young generation’ neighbourhood of the kibbutz, scene of one of the most violent massacres on 7 October: 11 people killed and seven kidnapped among the 37 residents.

This morning, the IDF closed communication routes around the border area to ensure discretion and security during the release operations.
