From 17 to 22 December, Nave Vespucci, after 40,352 miles travelled, will stop in Doha for the 30th stage of the World Tour and the 6th stage of Villaggio Italia, an international exhibition dedicated to Italian excellence
The Doha leg of the Italy Village, strongly desired by Defence Minister Guido Crosetto and supported by 11 Italian ministries, follows those in Los Angeles, Tokyo, Darwin, Singapore and Mumbai. Qatar will host the event thanks to the support of the Italian Embassy in Doha, the Italian Trade Agency and local partners such as Qatar Tourism and Katara Cultural Village.
In addition to the presence of the Nave Vespucci, the Italian Village will host important personalities such as the Minister of Agriculture Francesco Lollobrigida, the Undersecretary of Defence Matteo Perego di Cremnago, and the Ambassador of Italy Paolo Toschi. This event is part of an increasingly strong bilateral relationship between Italy and Qatar, consolidated by numerous official exchanges between the two countries in recent years.
Gastronomic, cultural and sporting protagonists
The Italy Village in Doha will celebrate gastronomy, culture and sport, with a focus on excellence such as olive oil and the art of pizza. Among the most eagerly awaited activities will be the Italian Olive Oil Tasting Masterclasses, organised by the National Consortium of Olive Growers and Veronafiere. In addition, the ‘Pizze Stellate’ event will feature Italian pizzachefs presenting doughs and techniques, accompanied by fine olive oils.
On the cultural side, the Villaggio Italia will host a design exhibition, film screenings from the Venice Biennale, and musical performances, including opera by the Fondazione Arena di Verona, the Band of the Carabinieri Corps, and concerts by local and Italian artists.
A tribute to Italian art and disability
An exclusive exhibition will feature artist Jago (Jacopo Cardillo), famous for his ‘family’ sculpture, which will be on display in Doha. The sculpture, made of Italian marble, represents a symbolic embrace and the value of cohesion. Italian marble will be the focus of a masterclass, promoted by the ICE agency.
In addition, the theme of disability will be addressed with a conference on the project ‘WoW’ – Wheels on Waves, which recounts the experience of disabled people on a journey around the world aboard a fully accessible catamaran, ‘Lo Spirito di Stella’. The project is promoted by the Ministry of Defence and aims to break down physical and mental barriers through the experience of sailing.
