Searches in Brasov linked to corruption, money laundering and electoral forgery
Romania’s Constitutional Court annulled the result of the first round of the presidential elections, held on 24 November, due to suspected Russian interference. The decision led to the cancellation of the runoff scheduled for Sunday between the extreme right-wing and pro-Russian candidate, Calin Georgescu, and the pro-NATO and pro-EU mayor of Campulung, Elena Lasconi.
Police forces carried out searches at three homes in Brasov, a city in central Romania, as part of an investigation into crimes of electoral bribery, money laundering and computer forgery. The prosecutor’s office confirmed that the searches are linked to the ongoing investigation into electoral malpractice.
