O presidente do Brasil, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, 79 anos, está melhorando após uma cirurgia para remover uma hemorragia intracraniana, resultado de uma queda em 19 de outubro. A informação foi confirmada pelo hospital Sírio-Libanês de São Paulo, onde Lula foi internado e operado. Atualmente, o presidente permanece em tratamento intensivo sob observação, mas os médicos esperam que ele possa receber alta na próxima semana.
Enquanto isso, o vice-presidente Geraldo Alckmin está exercendo suas funções presidenciais. A queda, que inicialmente não parecia grave, causou um trauma significativo na parte de trás da cabeça, exigindo pontos e uma pequena hemorragia cerebral. Por precaução, Lula cancelou sua viagem à Rússia para participar da cúpula do Brics, pois os médicos desaconselharam viagens longas de avião.
